Project Timeline
This project is lengthy and includes a variety of components. Instructors can add to or delete components as needed. A sample timeline is provided below. It is recommended instructors assign this as a full semester term project.
In a college composition course, consider replacing your course portfolio project with this project based learning assignment. It will accomplish the same goals of most college composition classes in terms of writing rhetorically, writing for an audience, and writing with a purpose. The embedded mini assignments guide students through the steps of the writing process: brainstorming (word clouds), prewriting (concept maps), drafting, planning, and publishing (Webquest).
Suggested timeline for a 16 week semester (this course could be adapted for a shorter online only format of 8-10 weeks).
By week 4 - students complete the SWOT analysis and Word cloud. Review projects objectives, goal, and examples.
By week 6, students complete the project concept map and begin organizing and planning their work.
By week 8 (midterm point), students begin initial upload of content to their site, blog, google docs etc. Instructors should set specific writing goals for students at this point. For example, two, 300 word posts to a blog, and so on.
Week 8 -11, instructors should assign writing goals (for example, 6-8 posts to a blog, and so on). Be specific so that students can add to their work steadlily and build their project. Include peer review and peer sharing work for feedback and revision.
Weeks 12-14, complete the emarketing webquest. Review options for increasing traffic to their site/project.
Weeks 15-16, project wrap up. Emphasize that this is an ongoing project. Now that it is started learners have the option to continue the site with regular updates and posting.
